Goldman Prize Recipient/ National Geographic Emerging Explorer - Tsetsegee Munkhbayar

Munkhbayar Tsetsegee heads the Onggi River Movement, a Mongolian grassroots organization which he co-founded in 2001 to protect the environment and the people along the Onggi River. He was able to close down 36 out of 37 gold mining companies that were operating along the Onggi River. His work has led to the formation of the Mongolian Nature Protection Coalition, which brought together 11 Mongolian river movements and has had significant impact on the awareness of this issue both at the grassroots and legislative levels in Mongolia. Munkhbayar won the Goldman Environmental Prize in 2007 and was selected as an Emerging Explorer of 2008 by the National Geographic Society. For more information about his organization please visit the websites of the Onggi River Movement, the Goldman Environmental Prize and National Geographic Magazine.

Since August 2007, GGFOM has been assisting Munkhbayar with his international relationships and outreach.
